Justice Charles Parkhill

Former Justice Charles Parkhill was the 34th Justice on the Supreme Court and served from 1905-1911.

He grew up in Tallahassee, attended Randolph Macon College, and, by 1882, had earned a law degree from the University of Virginia.  He was admitted to the Florida Bar in Pensacola and practiced law there. 

In 1904, he was elected to the First Judicial Circuit Court, then appointed in 1905 by Governor William Jennings to the Florida Supreme Court at the age of 45.

Justice Parkhill served 6 years, 7 months before resigning from the court in 1912, noting the low pay the state accorded to its top judges, and moved to Tampa, where he became the city attorney. 

After service in the U. S. Army in World War I, Parkhill became the state attorney for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in Tampa where he served until his death.

Justice Parkhill was born in Tallahassee, Florida, June 22, 1859, and died May 13, 1933, in Houston, Texas.
