SC20-506 Robert Velazco v. State of Florida

Miami-Dade County -  begins about 9:30 a.m.

Velazco was convicted of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, driving under the influence (DUI) causing serious bodily injury, and DUI causing property damage. Velazco appealed, arguing that his convictions for both DUI serious bodily injury and DUI property damage violated double jeopardy because they are degrees of the same offense as provided by Florida law. The Third District Court of Appeal affirmed Velazco’s convictions and certified direct conflict with the Fourth District Court of Appeal.
