SC2023-0682 Advisory Opinion to the Attorney General Re: Adult Personal Use of Marijuana

Begins at 9:00 a.m. 

In this case, the Court reviews a proposed ballot initiative that would amend the state constitution to allow the recreational use of marijuana by adults. The Court reviews the proposal’s validity based on constitutional and statutory requirements that it be on a single subject and its language is clear and unambiguous.

SC2023-0604 Statewide Guardian Ad Litem Office v. C.C., etc., et al.

Osceola County - begins about 9:40 a.m. 

This case reviews a Fifth District Court of Appeal decision to terminate a father’s parental rights. The Department of Children and Families and the Guardian ad Litem sought the Supreme Court’s review to address conflict with other appellate-court decisions regarding what, if any, actions the Department must take to preserve and reunify families, prior to seeking termination.

SC2015-0391 James Herard v. State of Florida

Broward County - begins at 10:30 a.m.

This is a direct appeal of James Herard’s death sentence for the 2008 murder of Eric Jean-Pierre, shot by a fellow gang member at Herard’s direction. Herard raises five issues in this appeal.
